AMHERST – The Amherst CIBC Wood Gundy Ramblers will open their 2014-15 regular season at home on Saturday, Sept. 13, against the Woodstock Slammers

New coach Josh Hepditch will make his Maritime Junior Hockey League coaching debut against close friend Justin Bowers, who helped encourage the former Moncton Wildcats’ defenceman to the apply for the Ramblers coaching job.

The league released its new schedule earlier this week.

The Ramblers are at home Saturday, Sept. 20 against the Valley Wildcats and play their first road game on Sunday, Sept. 21, in Lunenburg against the Bridgewater Lumberjacks.

Amherst is St. Stephen’s on Sept. 27 against the expansion Aces before renewing their rivalry with the Truro Bearcats on Oct. 4 at the Rath-Eastlink Community Centre.

The Ramblers will play their first game against their former coach, Jim Bottomley, on Nov. 7 in Yarmouth. The Mariners are back in Amherst on Nov. 23 – a Sunday afternoon contest at the Amherst Stadium.

From Sept. 11 until March 8, 288 games will be contested between the league’s 12 teams due to the reduced 48 game schedule adopted at this year’s annual general meeting last month.

The first games see the Summerside Western Capitals playing the Pictou County Weeks Crushers in New Glasgow on Sept. 11 with the Valley Wildcats travelling to Dieppe to play the Commandos.

Truro begins their title defence on Sept. 12 against the Slammers in Woodstock.

After spending the 2013-14 campaign in Kentville, this game will mark the Wildcats’ first game in their new home, Berwick’s Kings Mutual Century Center. This game will mark the first Jr.A game played in Berwick in 47 seasons.

The Aces host their first game ever on Sept. 13 against Truro in the new Garcelon Civic Centre.

Meanwhile, a man who is no stranger to the league will make his regular season debut behind the bench with the Yarmouth Mariners. Jim Bottomley will enter this 29th season as a head coach in Junior A when the Mariners host the Miramichi Timberwolves on Sept.13.

The annual holiday break in the MHL will commence on Dec. 22 with games resuming on Friday, Jan. 2, 2015. The regular season winds down on Sunday, March 8 when the Ramblers visit the Bearcats and the Western Capitals host the Miramichi Timberwolves. Also, the Campbellton Tigers will visit the Dieppe Commandos to finish up the regular season’s slate of games.

This year’s Fred Page Cup is in Cornwall, Ont. with the RBC being held in Portage la Prairie, Man.

The Ramblers have also announced their pre-season schedule, beginning Saturday, Aug. 30 at the Amherst Stadium against Dieppe and Sunday, Aug. 31 against the Commandos at the Arthur J. LeBlanc Arena.

Amherst hosts Summerside on Saturday, Sept. 6 before travelling back to P.E.I. on Sunday, Sept. 7 to face the Western Capitals at Credit Union Place.
