AMHERST – The National powerlifting championships in Amherst are in the books, and Amherst is now on the powerlifting map.

“We had so many comments from the lifters telling us it was best event they’d been to,” said Nathan Robertson, competitor and coach at the Amherst Powerlifting Club. “They said the spotters, loaders, handlers and judges were all excellent.”

Robertson has been working for several years to bring the CPF Pro-Am National Powerlifting Championships to Amherst and was finally successful this year. The meet was held Friday to Sunday at the Wandlyn Inn.

Amherst’s Trayci Metzger was the meet director.

“She did an amazing job,” said Robertson.

Metzger said coordinating the event was a yearlong endeavor.

“Everything went absolutely perfect this weekend,” she said. “It was a problem-free weekend.”

Robertson went into the weekend hoping to squat more than 900 pounds but ended up squatting 881 pounds, which gave him first place in the squat.

He also finished first in the bench press with a 675-pound lift.

At 595 pounds, Robertson didn’t have the best deadlift at the meet but still finished with the highest three-lift total, which was 2,151 pounds.

Robertson says Amherst will host the nationals a second time in either 2016 or 2017.

The Results from the CPF Pro-Am National’s are as follows:

– The Pro-Lifter results:

Best Raw Male Lifter – Chris Cromwell

Best Equipped Male Lifter – Nathan Robertson

Best Raw Female Lifter – Eva Dunbar

Best Equipped Female – Crystal De Jong
