WENTWORTH – Despite the extra snow, Ski Wentworth will still close on Sunday.

“We generally try to stay open until the last week in March, once that comes the snow doesn’t last very long in the warmer temperatures,” general manager Leslie Wilson said. “We have tons of snow and conditions are excellent, but the goal is still to close on March 30.”

The crowds, she said, traditionally drop off after March Break. Also, warmer weather breaks the snow down very fast in early April.

Wilson said the 2013-14 season was very successful. Cooler temperatures in the fall allowed the ski hill to begin making snow at the earliest time ever and trails were open to skiers well before Christmas.

“We had our earliest November ever and we were able to stop snowmaking very early as well,” she said. “We were able to get the trails open earlier. That’s what the people want in trail diversity.”

Because they were able to make so much snow so early the January thaw didn’t really impact the base.

The popular acquaneige was originally scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. is now being held on Saturday at the same time.
