Truro masters swimmers qualify for world championship in Montreal
The swimmers, Margot Begin-Gillis, Veronica McMillan, Carl Ballard, Ken Smith and Peter Grant, achieved the times at the Halifax Chronos masters long course meet at Centennial Pool in Halifax.
Ballard, competing in the age 45 to 49 category, set a new provincial record while winning the 100m backstroke. He also finished first in the100m freestyle and 100m fly.
Grant also laid down a new record in the 400m individual medley in the 75 to 79 age division.
Begin-Gillis finished second in the 200m individual medley in the age 45 to 49 division while McMillan was first in both the 100m and 400m freestyle in the age 55 to 59 category.
Smith was first in both the 50m and 100m freestyle in the 50 to 54 division while also finishing second in the 50m backstroke and 50m fly.
Jasmine Vialette also recorded strong results with wins in the 100m and 200m backstroke, while finishing second in the 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke in the 18 to 24 class.
Rounding out the Colchester contingent was Terry Wasson, who recorded wins in the 200m individual medley and 200m backstroke while placing second in the 50m backstroke and third in the 50m breaststroke.
