The final score – 89-19.

Vikings play second game Friday at 6 p.m.

AMHERST – Although they won their first game 89-19, the Amherst Regional High School Vikings aren’t going to let the win go to their heads.

“At times we played well,” said Thomas Skabar, Vikings coach. “But, for us, the score line isn’t important, our performance is, and I think we’re capable of much better on a consistent basis.”

The No. 1 seeded Viking played the No. 8 seeded Millwood High School Knights during the Vikings first game of the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation Division 2 provincial boys championships Thursday night at ARHS.

Four players scored 12 points for the Vikings: Logan Dowe, Marcus Kindervater, Matt McCrossin and Adrian Van Vulpen.

Also scoring for the Vikings was Jacob Harnish with 10, Jason Morse and Willie Legere with eight each, Blake Thompson with seven, and Caleb Hayes and Joel McCrossin with four points each.

Skabar says his team will start preparing for Friday right away.

“It’s about figuring out what we did well and what we have to improve upon tomorrow,” he said after Thursdays game. “Because tomorrow is a totally different ball game all together, so we’re going to make sure we do what we can to prepare for tomorrow.”

The final scheduling for Friday wasn’t worked out before the Amherst News went to press.

On Friday, games are played at 2 p.m., 4 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

The Vikings will be playing at 6 p.m.

Saturday schedule is as follows:

9 a.m. – 7th place game

11 a.m. – 5th place game

1 p.m. – 3rd place game

3 p.m. –1st place championship game
