TRURO - Two members of the Truro Bearcats have been named among the Maritime Junior Hockey League's three stars of the week.
Forward Jacob Smith and defenceman Jordan McNaughton have been named first and second stars, respectively. Rankyn Campbell of the Miramichi Timberwolves is the third star.
In three games, Smith, an 18 year old from Sudbury, Ont., notched six goals and four assists. His 10-point outburst is the highest total for one week by any player in the league this season.
Smith potted a hat trick and added two assists in Truro's 7-2 victory over the Woodstock Slammers. He scored once and assisted on another in a 5-2 victory over the Yarmouth Mariners, and fired home another two goals and added an assist in a 9-3 trouncing of the Valley Wildcats 9-3.
Smith is fourth in league scoring with 29 goals and 31 assists in 43 games.
McNaughton, a 19-year-old from Komoka, Ont., put up eight points in three games. He had three assists against Woodstock, three assists against Yarmouth and had a goal and a helper against Valley.
McNaughton, who had spent parts of the past three seasons with the former Brampton Battalion and Windsor Spitfires in the OHL, has overtaken the scoring lead among blueliners in the MHL with 53 points in 48 games.
Campbell, 20, had four goals and an assist to lead Miramichi to a pair of victories.
