SACKVILLE – Mount Allison’s department of athletics and recreation announced their Athletes of the Week for Feb. 17 to 24.

Bradley Fuller, Basketball

A first-year men’s basketball Mountie from Wolfville, Fuller was instrumental in helping the Mounties to a 1-1 record over the past seven days.

On Wednesday Fuller had nine points and three rebounds during Mount Allison’s loss to Mount Saint Vincent University.

Fuller played almost 25 minutes during the game, and the Mounties stayed close with the second place Mystics for most of the game.

On Sunday the Mounties wrapped up their regular season with a 92-78 win on the road against The University of New Brunswick, Saint John. Fuller had seven rebounds and 28 points to lead the Mounties.

The men’s Mounties will now get ready for the ACAA quarter-final match with the St. Thomas University Tommies coming up this Friday at 5 p.m. at DAL AC as part of the 2013-2014 ACAA Basketball Championships.

The Mountie women play on Friday at 11 a.m. in their quarter-final match against MSVU.

Lindsay James, Hockey

James, a fourth-year women’s hockey Mountie from Halifax, was a key player in the Mounties becoming the first team in AUS history to win a women’s hockey playoff series.

The new playoff format was introduced for AUS women’s hockey prior to the 2013-2014 season and James and her teammates wasted no time showing their love for the new format, eliminating the St. Thomas Tommies in two games straight.

James opened the scoring for the Mounties on Tuesday en route to an impressive 3-2 road win and a 1-0 lead in the best of three series.

On Thursday the Mounties left little doubt in front of a passionate hometown crowd, beating the Tommies 4-1 and advancing to the second round.

James again was the offensive catalyst, this time scoring three goals to pace the Mounties.

The Mounties will now face St. Francis Xavier University in the Subway AUS Semi-Final best of 3 series starting Tuesday in Antigonish.
