OREC Lady Golden Bears win third consecutive regional banner

OXFORD-Oxford Regional Education Centre's senior Lady Golden Bears basketball team captured their third Northumberland Region Division 4 championship banner in as many years this past weekend at OREC.
In their first game, Oxford defeated the Hants North Flames 61 - 31. Scoring for Oxford was Ashley O'Brien with 16 points, Regan Swan with 11, Taylor Mattinson with 10, Andrea Dorn with six, Bethany Warwick with six, Katherine Williams with five while Megan Thompson, Rhyse Black and Kathryn Hickman each had two points. Morgan Bishop rounded out the attack for Oxford with one point.
In their second game, Oxford defeated the East Antigonish Mustangs 82 - 34. Leading the way for Oxford was Ashley O'Brien with 23 points. Rhyse Black scored 18 points, Morgan Bishop scored 12, Katherine Williams scored eight, Regan Swan had seven while Andrea Dorn, Megan Thompson and Taylor Mattinson each scored four points. Bethany Warwick also netted two points.
The Pugwash Panthers defeated Guysborough 45-38 and North Colchester 61-27.
In the finals, Oxford defeated Pugwash 58-30 en route to their third straight regional banner. Leading the way was Ashley O'Brien with 21 points. Andrea Dorn added nine, Taylor Mattinson eight, while Regan Swan, Morgan Bishop, Megan Thompson and Kathryn Hickman chipped in with four points apiece. Katherine Williams and Bethany Warwick rounded out the attack with two points apiece.
Oxford is expected to be the number one overall seed in the heading into Division 4 provincial championships in Cape Breton from February 27 through March 1.
