AMHERST – The Amherst Colts lost 7-4 to the Fundy Rhino in Game 1 of their best-of-seven semi-final playoff series against Saturday at Amherst Stadium.
The Rhino took a 2-0 lead in the first period of the Nova Scotia Junior C Hockey League contest before the Colts scored with 30 seconds left in the frame.
Ryan Horseman scored the goal on a power play off a pass from Aaron Crocker and the period ended with the Rhino up 2-1.
The Colts tied the game early in the second period when Andrew Barron scored a short handed, unassisted goal less than a minute into the period.
Ryan Legere put the Colts up 3-2 two minutes later with an assist from Nathan McCue.
The Rhino tied the game 3-3 with 9:01 left in the period but McCue scored with 42 seconds left in the period, giving the Colts a 4-3 lead going into the second break. Spencer Maskill assisted on the McCue goal.
The third period was all Rhino. They scored four unanswered goals, winning the game 7-4.
Matt Caron faced 24 shots playing in goal for the Colts, and his teammates had 17 shots on Colts goaltender Eric Durand.
The second game of the series was scheduled for Sunday at 4 p.m. but, because of the snowstorm, was rescheduled for Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Amherst Stadium.
Game 3 and Game 4 are in Truro at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre.
Game 3 is Friday at 8 p.m., and Game 4 is Sunday at 8 p.m.
