OREC lady Golden Bears and Pugwash lady Panthers to meet in Division 4 regional final

SPRINGHILL-The Springhill Junior Senior High Lady Eagles can call themselves Northumberland Region Division 3 champions following their convincing 76-39 win Saturday over the Pictou Academy Pitbulls in their newly renovated gym.

The only team member missing was German exchange student Celina Kramer.

“Celina was an exchange student from Germany who unfortunately had to return home after first term exams,” stated Springhill Lady Eagles assistant coach Murray Thompson. “We still consider her part of the team.”

“I thought that the kids played really well,” stated Eagles head coach Darrell McLellan. “Hopefully in two weeks we’ll have a chance to win provincials.”

Other action saw the aforementioned Pictou Academy Pitbulls defeat the South Colchester Wolves by a score of 48-35 to advance to the finals to face Springhill.

At Oxford Regional Education Centre, the Oxford Lady Golden Bears, and the Pugwash Lady Panthers advanced to the Northumberland Region Division 4 senior girls finals, a game originally schedule for Sunday afternoon, after each team went 2-0 on Saturday. Oxford defeated Hants North 61-31 and East Antigonish 82-34 while Pugwash defeated Guysborough 45-38 and North Colchester 61-27.
