Colts goaltender, Matt Caron, and the rest of the Colts will play the Fundy Rhino in the second round of the NSJCHL playoffs. Game 1 goes Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
AMHERST - The Colts open their best-of-seven, Nova Scotia Junior C Hockey League semi-final playoff series Saturday at Amherst Stadium.
The Colts are hosting long-time rivals, Truro’s Fundy Rhino, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
Paul Atkinson, Colts general manager, expects a close series.
“We have home ice advantage and I think the series will go longer than four games,” said Atkinson.
The Colts are coming off a three game sweep of the Clare Lions. The series was marked by a large number of penalties.
“This series won’t be penalty-filled because the team with the least penalties in this series will probably win the series,” said Atkinson.
He also expects it to be a fast-skating series.
“We’re all healthy,” said Atkinson. “And (Ryan) Horseman and (Andrew) Barron are near the top of the league in the point standings. Hopefully we can continue that through this series.”
Horseman goes into Saturday’s action in second place in the playoff points standings with five goals and six assists in three games, while Barron is in seventh place with five goals and two assists in three games. Most other players near the top of the leaderboard have played four games.
“Our goaltending is strong and our defence is going to have to work hard against the Truro team because they have some power up front as well,” said Atkinson.
Game 1 is Saturday at 3:30 p.m., and Game 2 is Sunday at 4 p.m. Both games are at Amherst Stadium.
