Vikettes also win bronze in Summerside

AMHERST – Lauren MacEachern led the Amherst Regional High School Vikettes with 20 points in a 66-51 win over Moncton’s Bernice MacNaughton High School Highlanders Monday night at ARHS.

Hannah Beland had 12 points in win, while Danielle Young had nine points, and Mia Furlong and Ashley MacEachern had eight points each.

Also scoring for the Vikettes was Lauren Chitty with six points, Taylor Chitty with two points, and Ryanne Belyea with one point.

Over the weekend the Vikettes were in Summerside, P.E.I.

Lauren MacEachern was named the tournament MVP for the Vikettes after she sank a three pointer to capture a bronze medal for the Vikettes.

The Vikettes were down by as many as 10 points to Miramichi’s, James M. Hill High School Tommies, but they kept fighting back and won on a three-point shot from MacEachern.

With six seconds left to go, MacEachern got the ball back on an inbounds play and sank the three-pointer to put her team up 75-74.

Scorers for the Vikettes in the Bronze medal game were:

Ryanne Belyea - 22 points

Lauren Chitty - 7 points

Taylor Chitty - 5 points

Ashley MacEachern, Mia Furlong and Madison Bennett all with 4 points

In their first game Friday night, the Vikettes beat the Bluefield Senior High School Bobcats 60-37. Bluefield is located West of Charlottetown.

Lauren Chitty - 9 points

Madison Bennett - 6 points

In the semi final game, the Vikettes lost 73-40 to Charlottetown’s Colonel Gray Senior High School Colonel’s.
