Miners beat Bulldogs

SPRINGHILL – The Cumberland County Blues beat the Pitcou County Scotians 2-1 Friday night in Springhill during Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League action.

The Blues took a 1-0 lead in the first period when Zach Anderson scored with 8:12 left in the period off passes from Jesse Colborne and Shawn Wright.

The Blues went up 2-0 in the second period when Colborne scored with 6:54 left in the period, with assists from Gil Murdock and Anderson.

Pictou scored their goal 12 minutes into the third period.

Jessie Cox made 35 stops on 36 shots, while the Blues had 26 shots on Scotians goaltender Spencer Scott.

The Blues host the Antigonish Bulldogs on Friday in Springhill.

The Antigonish Bulldogs lost their Friday night game to the Glace Bay Miners Friday night, which helped the Blues jump to within six points of the Bulldogs for the final spot in the NSJHL Sid Rowe Division.

The Bulldogs play Bay Ducks tonight in St. Margaret’s Bay. That game starts at 8 p.m.

The Ducks are currently in fourth spot in the Fred Fox Division with 35 points, two points behind the East Hants Penguins.
