Matthews gaining on Cormier on AAHL leaderboard

AMHERST – Amherst Adult Hockey League action continued last week with wins from J&K Electric, Colson Overhead Doors, and J&K Electric.

On Tuesday J&K Electric beat the Elmtree Pub & Grill 6-4.

Brendon Grimes and Adam MacDonald scored two goals each for the Electric, with Brad Linkletter and Justin Matthews adding one goal each.

Matthews also had three assists, with Dave McLeod and Shane O’Byrne getting one assist each.

Corey Skinner scored two goals for the Pub, with Mike Hunter and Mike Archibald adding one goal each.

Greg Brennan, Seth Crowe, Nick Dobson, Russell Scott and Mitchell Tower added one assist each.

J&K goaltender, Jarret Munn faced 39 shots on the night, while Pub goaltender Thomas Ramy made 29 saves on 35 shots.

On Sunday, Colson Overhead Doors defeated Bluewave Energy 6-4.

Mark Bennet, Matt Colson, Luke Crocker, Jarrod Fraser, Steve Skidmore and Danny Small scored for the Doors, while Frazer, Ryan Reynolds and Corey Robichaud got two assists each, and Bennet, Colson and Small score one helper each.

Mark McLeod led Bluewave with two goals, and Matt Cormier and Luke McSorely added one goal each. McSorely also got two assists, as did Tim Ackles. Waas Lewis and Mike Stack had one assist each.

Steve Brown got the win in goal for the Doors, making 20 stops on 24 shots, while Bluewave goalie Gilles Hache faced 23 shots.

Last Thursday, Bluewave Energy beat J&K Electric 5-1.

Former Ramblers captain, Justin Matthews led the Electric with three goals and two assists, while Matthews’ former Ramblers teammate, Shane O’Byrne scored one goal and three assists. Adam Macdonald added a goal and one assist, and Brendon Grimes and Glen Hussy had one assist each.

Mike Stack scored for the Wave, with Joel Stronge assisting on the goal.

J&K goaltender, Scott Clarke, made 18 stops on 19 shots, while Bluewave goalie, Gilles Hache made 17 stops on 22 shots.

The score from this Thursday’s game between Bluewave and the Elmtree Pub & Grill was not available before the Amherst News went to press.

Colson leads the AAHL standings with a record of 10-5-1, and Bluewave is second with a record of 8-7-5, J&K is third with a record of 8-8-2, and the Elmtree is in last place with a 4-10-3 record.

Matt Cormier has led the league for most of the season and still sits atop the league leader board with 53 points – 21 goals and 32 assists in 19 games.

Justin Matthews has gained ground on Cormier in the last two weeks and sits at second place on the leaderboard with 44 points – 23 goals and 21 asssits.

Adam MacDonald is third with 35 points – 20 goals and 15 assists.

Steve Brown sits atop the goaltender leaderboard with a goals-against-average of 4.53, Scott Clarke is second with a GAA of 5.08, and Gilles Hache is third with a GAA of 5.16.
