Dmitrii Anikin had two assists for the Blues Friday night.
AMHERST – The Cumberland County Blues did something Friday night that they haven’t done since Oct. 30, 2011. They won three games in a row.
Back in 2011, the Blues won games Oct. 24, Oct. 28, and Oct. 30.
Now they have another three in a row, which they won Jan 10, Jan 5, and Dec. 20.
The Blues latest win was a 3-2 shootout win over the Pictou County Scotians Friday night at the Richard Calder Arena in Springhill.
The Scotians took a 2-0 lead after scoring the only two goals in the first period.
Zachary Anderson made a 2-1 game with 5:38 left in the second off passes from Dmitrii Anikin and Gilbert Murdock, and then Zach Black tied the game 2-2 with 7:33 left in the third period.
Anikin and Steven Whittle assisted on the goal.
The Blues won the shootout.
Blues goaltender Jesse Cox 33 saves on 35 shots during regulation, and Scotians goaltender Ben Goss made 27 saves on 29 shots.
The Blues are trying to catch the Antigonish Bulldogs for the last playoff spot in the Sid Rowe Division.
The Bulldogs beat the Scotians Sunday in Trenton, maintaining their five-point cushion over the Blues.
The Bulldogs visit Springhill on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
