SPRINGHILL – Confidence breed’s confidence, and the Cumberland County Blues are breeding confidence with each passing game.

“We’re motivated and energized,” said Blues veteran Jesse Colborne after Wednesday night’s practice in Springhill.

Teammate Dmitrii Anikin agrees.

“We finally got two wins in a row after losing 15 in a row and everybody’s morale has been boosted,” said Anikin. “Were excited to play Friday and, hopefully, get a win for our fans.”

Tonight, the Blues host the Pictou County Scotians at the Richard Calder Arena in Springhill.

Grove Sutton, the Blues head coach, says the two wins have helped his players gain much-needed confidence.

“The guys are starting to believe in themselves now,” he said. “You need some wins to get that mind-set back again, and they have it. You can see it in their eyes.”

The Blues currently sit five points behind the Antigonish Bulldogs, a team that holds the final playoff spot in the Sid Rowe Division.

“Every game we play is a playoff game for us,” said Sutton. “We can’t lose two or three games. We have to get points every time we play, especially against Antigonish, and we have to steal some points off the other teams as well.”

Terry McManaman, Blues general manager, says Brookfield Elks player Ryan Crowe Has been traded for Jesse Magarvey.

McManaman says Crowe is one of the better penalty killers in the league.

“Jesse’s going to St. Mary’s University and he’s unable to travel with us,” said McManaman. “He’ll (Crowe) solidify our third line. We have two really good solid lines and we want a more balanced third line.”

Tonight’s game starts at 7:30 p.m.

Colborne hopes fans come out to watch his team in action.

“We’re coming together and I hope we can pay back the fans who have supported us all year,” said Colborne.

Sutton says his team will work hard for three full periods.

“It’s not a great situation we’re in but, at the end of the day, if we can sneak into that last playoff spot, that’s quite an accomplishment,” he said.
