AMHERST – The Amherst Regional High School Vikings hockey team is back in action tonight at Amherst Stadium for the first game of a home-and-home stand against Hants East Rural High School Tigers.
“This team is in their first year in the league and they just won the recent tournament in Moncton,” said Vikings coach Wayne MacKenzie.
The Tigers participated in the Moncton High School Hockey Classic, which attracted 41 teams from throughout New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
“Hants East is a very good team, so we have to be disciplined and play well in our own end. If we play three periods instead of two we can beat any team.”
MacKenzie says this year’s Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation hockey league is more competitive than last year.
“Our team has improved a lot since the beginning of the season but there’s some new teams in our league and they are all very strong,” he said.. “The last place team can beat the first place team. That’s how close it is. Whoever wants to win that night can win.”
Tonight’s game starts at 8:15 p.m.
Cost of admission is $2 for everybody – adults, youth and seniors.
