ARHS Vikings top Pugwash Panthers to capture ARHS Christmas Classic trophy

AMHERST- The Amherst Regional High School (ARHS) Vikings defeated the Pugwash Panthers here on Saturday night at ARHS to capture the 2013 Sifto Salt Inc.-Jim Hatheway Ford ARHS Christmas Classic championship trophy.
The ARHS senior boys basketball team, which was defeated 99-95 in double overtime earlier in the 2013-2014 basketball season by the Pugwash Panthers, defeated their Cumberland County basketball rivals by a score of 88 to 65.
Tournament Most Valuable Player (MVP) Logan Dowe led the way for the Vikings in the championship game, netting 23 points. Rounding out the Vikings’ attack was Matt McCrossin (15 points), Jason Morse (14 points), Marcus Kindervater (10 points), Willie Legere (9 points), Adrian Van Vulpen (8 points), Caleb Hayes (6 points), Jacob Harnish (2 points) and Dustin Pipes (2 points).
Leading the way for the Panthers was Jordan with 12 points, while Tristan McKellar and Lucas Morrison chipped in with 8 and 6 points respectively.
Other Christmas Classic action from Friday saw the ARHS Vikings defeat the North Nova Education Centre Gryphons by a score of 83 to 39; the PDHS Panthers edged the Summerside Three Oaks Axemen 80-73; the Antigonish Dr. J.H. Gillis Royals got by the Gryphons 57-48; the Oxford Regional Education Centre Golden Bears defeated the Axemen 60-52 while the Vikings downed the Royals 91-75.
On Saturday, the Panthers defeated the Golden Bears 66-48; the Axemen defeated the Gryphons 59-47 and the Royals defeated the Golden Bears by a score of 66-51.
