Blazers score six third period goals

LOWER SACKVILLE – The Cumberland County Blues lost 8-5 to the Blazers during Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League action Monday night in Sackville.
The Blues had a 3-0 lead before the midway mark of the second period.
Zach Black scored less than two minutes in the first period off a pass from Brent Pendergast, taking a 1-0 lead.
Drew McNutt scored ten minutes later, giving the Blues a 2-0 lead, with John Tattrie assisting on the goal.
The Blues Jesse Colborne put the Blues up 3-0 with 11 minutes left in the second with assists from Shawn Wright and Tattrie.
The Blazers scored two goals later in the second period, cutting the Blues lead 3-2, and that was the score when the teams went in the dressing room for the second intermission.
The Blues came out in the third and scored their fourth goal a little over two minutes into the frame, with Wright scoring off feeds from Colborne and Tattrie.
The Blazers made it a 4-3 game with 11:57 left in the game.
The Blazers tied the game 4-4 a little over two minutes later, and then went up 5-4 with 8:09 left in the game.
The Blazers then scored two goals 12 seconds apart, scoring their sixth goal with 3:25 left in the game, and scoring their seventh goal with 3:13 left in the game, making it a 7-4 game.
The Blues scored a goal at the two-minute mark, cutting the Blazers lead by two goals.
Steven Whittle scored the goal with an assist from Shane Harnish.
The Blazers then scored an empty netter with six seconds left in the game, winning it 8-5
Shots after the first goal was 16-14 in favour of the Blazers, after two periods the Blazers were ahead on the shot clock 35-27, and after three periods, shots on goals was 45-37 in favour of the Blazers.
On Friday the Blues were in Port Hawkesbury where they lost 8-3 to the Strait Pirates.
The Blues scored one goal in each period, while the Pirates scored two goals in the first and three goals in the second and third period.
Tattrie scored the Blues first goal off a pass from Colborne.
Larry Varga scored the Blues second period goal with an assist from Harnish, and their third period goal was scored by Mackenzie Young, with assists from Wright and Harnish.
Jesse Cox faced 38 shots and his teammates had 25 shots on Pirates goaltender Marcus Otmar.
With the two losses, the Blues have two wins on the season and have lost their last 14 games.
Their last win was Oct. 18, against the Eastern Shore Mariners, and their first win of the season was Oct. 1, against the Brookfield Elks. Those are the two teams they will face next.
The Blues are on the road on Saturday when they travel to Musquodoboit Harbour to play the Mariners, and then they return home Dec. 20 to host the Elks.
