TRURO – Zach Sill didn’t get a chance to go head-to-head with one of the NHL’s best clubs.

Sill, a 25-year-old Birch Hill native was a healthy scratch for the Pittsburgh Penguins Thursday as they defeated the San Jose Sharks 5-1.

Prior to the opening faceoff it looked as if Sill would get to play consecutive games for the first time in the NHL after also dressing Tuesday against the New York Islanders. However, lines were changed at the last minute, leaving Sill on the outside looking in. His replacement, Jason Megna, scored for Pittsburgh.

The Penguins are back in action Saturday when they travel to Boston to take on the Bruins at 8 p.m. Atlantic time.

Sill has played three games for the Penguins since being called up to the big club Nov. 16. He’s spent the past five seasons with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and has four points (1G, 3A) in 13 games this season.

He signed a one-year, two-way deal with Pittsburgh in July worth US$550,000 at the NHL level.
