SPRINGHILL – Blues fans had a lot to cheer about in the first two periods of the Blues two games over the weekend, but their cheers tailed off in the third period.

None more-so than on Sunday when the Blues lost 7-6 to the Pictou County Scotians.

The Blues had a 6-4 lead in the third period of their Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League contest against Pictou County, but the Brandon Verge, who is the NSJHL point leader, scored for the Scotians making it a 6-5 game with 10:21 left in the third.

The Scotians then tied the game 6-6 with 1:36 left in the game, and went up 7-6 with 1:07 left in the game.

The Scotians came out in the first period and went up 2-0 but the Blues made it a 2-2 game before the end of the frame.

The Blues took a 5-2 lead in the second period but the Scotians rallied back, and the score was 5-4 before the period ended.

The Blues went up 6-4 in the third when the Scotians scored three unanswered goals.

Jesse Colborne led the Blues with one goal and two assists, and Shawn Wright and Gilbert Murdock scored a goal and one assist each.

Jonathan Tattrie, Mackenzie Young and Dmitrii Anikin scored the Blues three other goals, while Drew McNutt, Steven Whittle, Shane Harnish and Zachery Anderson had one assist each.

On Friday the Blues went into the third period tied 3-3 in front of their home crowd.

The Blues dominated the period but it was the Blazers that scored the only goal. Ross Barnhart scored the game winner with 6:31 left in the game.

The Blues had numerous good scoring chances after the Barnhart goal, but were unable to get the puck past Blazers goaltender Alexander Reynolds.

Jess Cox faced 37 Blazers shots, while his teammates had 32 shots on Reynolds.

Wright scored a goal and two assists; Young added one goal and one assist and Colborne had one goal.

Adding assists for the Blues was Anikin, Harnish, and Jesse Magarvey.

The Blues don’t play another home game until Dec. 20, when they host the Brookfield Elks.

The Blues are away this Friday when they travel to Port Hawkesbury to play the Strait Pirates, and then on Monday they travel to Lower Sackville for a re-match with the Blazers.

On Dec. 14 they are in Musquodoboit Harbour to face off against the Eastern Shore Mariners.
