Bearcats denied in close major bantam contests

TRURO - The Truro Bearcats were winless on the weekend in the Nova Scotia Major Bantam Hockey League.

The Bearcats (2-12-4) skated to a 1-1 draw Sunday with Kings (0-16-2) after getting nipped 1-0 by the league-leading Bedford Barons (16-2-1) on Saturday.

The results leave the Bearcats tied for 10th among the league's 12 teams with the Newbridge Senators (3-14-2). Both clubs are three points behind the Cole Harbour Storm (4-12-3) and the Scotsburn Crushers (5-13-1).

On Sunday, Austin McBurnie scored at 1:55 of the third period to tie the contest. G Blackmore and Ben Higgins picked up assists and Jack Lynds made 27 saves.

On Saturday Alec MacDonald stopped 25 shots.

The Bearcats are back in action Friday when they travel to St. Margaret's Bay to take on the Gulls (15-3-0). They host the Barons Saturday at 4 p.m. at RECC before the Western Hurricanes (12-3-2) visit Sunday at 1 p.m.
