AMHERST-The Amherst Vikings pushed the Pugwash Panthers to the limit Saturday during the four-team round robin ARHS Senior Boys' Basketball Invitational Tournament.
After coming all the way back to tie Pugwash at 75, it would take two 5:00 overtime quarters to decide a winner. Just when it appeared that Amherst would capitalize on their fourth quarter momentum, Pugwash drained a three-point shot with 1.1 seconds left on the clock during the first overtime, tying the game at 86 points apiece.
In the second over time period, Pugwash held onto the momentum it gained during the dying seconds of the first overtime. Despite the fact that ARHS player of the game Jason Morse drained a three-pointer towards the end of the second overtime, it would not be enough to force a third overtime. The final score was Pugwash 99-ARHS 95.
The Pugwash Panthers' player of the game was Jordan Reid.
ARHS played Central Kings earlier in the day; they played Bridgewater at 5:00 pm. On Friday, ARHS defeated the Sussex Sonics 75-37. No other Saturday scores were available as of press time.
