Coach Troy Reid said it wasn’t one of the team’s best efforts.

“You can’t help but be disappointed after losing three to nothing,” he said. “I think we’re a better team than we showed here today.”

Although the team did well defensively, Reid said, they weren’t where they needed to be in terms of offense.

The score was at a standstill for the first half of the game until Metro Boston Pizza forward Annie MacDonald scored with 3:50 remaining in the second period.

She was assisted by Monica Morley and Alyssa MacNeill.

Metro Boston Pizza kept their momentum with Rachel Dorey scoring with 22 seconds left in the period. Jade Rioux had the assist.

The Northern Subway Selects came back strong in the third, but started to lose their burst of energy late in the period.

Emma Winters got the last goal for Metro Boston Pizza with 1:14 left in the game.

Final shots were 28-17 for Metro Boston Pizza.

“They don’t show any weak spots from top to bottom,” said Reid. “You can’t really take a shift off when you play them. If you do, they’ll make you pay.”

Metro continues to hold onto top spot in the female midget AAA hockey league, with a 12-1-0 record.

That loss was to the Northern Subway Selects on Oct. 18.

The Selects have three other wins under their belt as well, leaving Reid feeling good about the competitive season.

“In comparison to years past, we’re going in the right direction. I like the group. I like what we’re doing.”

The Selects will meet the MacIntyre Chevy Panthers in Port Hawkesbury on Nov. 23 at 2 p.m.
