Coming off 23-14 win over Axemen last weekend

SACKVILLE, N.B. – A week after earning their second consecutive playoff berth, the Mount Allison Football Mounties will attempt to get the AUS championship when they host the Acadia Axemen in semifinal action at MacAulay Field on Saturday at 2 p.m.

A win would put the Mounties in the Loney Bowl against the conference champion Saint Mary’s Huskies.

Mount Allison is coming off a thrilling 23-14 win over Acadia last Saturday in Sackville. It was the Mounties’ third straight win and vaulted them past both the St. F.X. X-Men and Acadia into second place and the right to host the conference semifinal game.

In last week’s game, the Mounties’ scored on their second possession, took advantage of several Axemen miscues to build up a 22-7 halftime lead.

Jordan Botel, with his league-leading sixth touchdown of the season, Kyle McLean and Sackville native Matt Rose all scored touchdowns in the game.

Botel had 114 yards in the game, while quarterback Brandon Leyh was 11-17 with a touchdown and has gone 10 quarters without an interception.

The Mounties also swept the AUS Football players of the week award with Botel winning the offensive player of the week award, defensive back Devante Sampson winning defensive honours and McLean earning the special teams nod.
