AMHERST – The Amherst Colts sit atop the Nova Scotia Junior C Hockey League standings after betting the Claire Lions 5-1 Sunday afternoon in Amherst.

Matt Richard had two goals for the Colts, with one goal being scored by Harrison Van Meekeren, Andrew Barron and Ryan Horseman.

Aaron Crocker had two assists, and Richard had one assist.

Matt Caron faced 24 Lions shots while his teammates had 41 shot at the Lions goaltender.

The game ended with 2:57 left in the third period after Colts player, James Allain, was checked from behind.

Allain was taken off the ice on a stretcher.

Colts president Kevin St. Peter said Allain hurt his back.

“He wanted to get up but we didn’t want him to,” said St. Peter. “We thought it better if he was checked at the hospital.

St. Peter said his team played a good game but have played better.

“We got the win,” said St. Peter. “Hopefully the fans keep coming out to support us. They will see some good hockey.”

The Colts travel to Spryfield on Saturday where they will face off against the Silver and Black Attack. On Sunday the South Shore Wild will travel from Liverpool to Amherst to play the Colts at Amherst Stadium.

The game starts at 7 p.m.
