Will compete at qualifier next week

AMHERST – The Amherst Regional High School Vikettes soccer team lost a close regional championship game Tuesday on the ARHS soccer pitch.

Down 3-2 with a few minutes left in the game, the Vikettes Rachel Chevarie tied the Nova Scotia Schools Athletic Federation game 3-3, forcing overtime.

The Nighthawks scored two minutes into the overtime, winning 4-3.

Lauren Chitty scored the first two goals for the Vikettes.

Vikettes coach Amanda Barlow said the loss was unfortunate.

“They’ve played better. They need to come together as a team,” she said.

The Vikettes will play a qualifier next week.

The regionals will wrap up this week and the Vikettes will know by weeks end who they will meet in the qualifiers and where they will meet.

“If they win the qualifier we’ll go to provincials and if we lose we’re done,” said Barlow.

Before then the Vikettes will travel to a tournament in P.E.I. this weekend.

“We’ll pull things together for that,” said Barlow.
