18-goal scorer in Shawinigan last season

The Ramblers announced the signing of 20-year-old J.C. Campagna on Monday.

The Amherst CIBC Wood Gundy Ramblers have added 20-year-old J.C. Campagna to the lineup. The Dublin, Ohio native had 18 goals with the Shawinigan Cataractes of the QMJHL last season.

AMHERST – The Amherst CIBC Wood Gundy Ramblers have added another piece to the puzzle in the form of a hulking winger with a nose for the net.

The Ramblers announced the signing of 20-year-old J.C. Campagna on Monday.

The 6’4”, 205-pound left-winger had 19 goals and 11 assists in 60 games for the Shawinigan Cataractes last season and no points in three games with the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League earlier this season.

Campagna arrived in Amherst on Monday and is expected to be in the lineup on Friday when the Ramblers travel to Campbellton to face the Tigers.

“He’s a huge addition to our lineup, the kind of power forward I’ve been looking for since the start of the season,” Ramblers coach and general manager Jim Bottomley said Monday. “I’ve been working on getting him to come to Amherst for a few weeks now.”

Bottomley, who is on a leave of absence after undergoing surgery last Monday in Halifax, credited the Ramblers’ organization for following through on the acquisition saying Jim Henwood was able to close the acquisition and bring Campagna to Amherst.

Amherst owned Campagna’s rights after Bottomley selected him first in the QMJHL supplemental draft. Bottomley said Campagna still hopes to play in the QMJHL and he will work to help the Dublin, Ohio native get some action, possibly with the Moncton Wildcats or another team.

“I told him to come to Amherst and we’d work on helping him get to where he wants to go,” Bottomley said.

Henwood said Campagna is the latest piece to the puzzle for the Ramblers.

“He’s a guy with almost three full seasons of major junior experience. He’s certainly to going add to our hockey club in terms of offence,” Henwood said. “He’s that offensive forward Jim has been looking for.”

Campagna also saw action with the OHL’s Sarnia Sting in 2009-10 and 2010-11, scoring 15 goals and 14 assists in 110 games, while also playing five games with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles and 19 games with the Peterborough Petes in 2011-12.

He also had 41 points in 42 games with the Lindsay Muskies of the Ontario Junior Hockey League in 2011-12.
