Cumberland Blues return to the Richard Calder Arena Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
SPRINGHILL - The Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League's Cumberland County Blues are set to play a pair of weekend exhibition games against the Moncton Vito's Jr. B team.
First up is a Saturday contest at 7:30 p.m. in Springhill against the Moncton Vito’s
The Vito's will have Amherst native Terry Rhindress behind their bench while the Blues will have head coach Robert McLure, and newly hired assistant coach Grove Sutton.
The games will be used to prepare for the their league opener Sept. 20, on the road against the East Hants Penguins.
"We've enjoyed a great training camp to date," said Terry ‘Mouser' McManaman, Blues general manager. "The team started with 40 players, and there have been a lot of young Cumberland players that have battled hard to earn a spot on this year's team.
"The coach's have a tough task this weekend in selecting the lineup for this season."
The Blues will dress most of their young prospects Saturday night, many of who are making the jump from Midget hockey and from The Nova Scotia Junior C Hockey League.
The Blues will also dress three local goalies Saturday night - Evan Mackenzie, Josh Tannahill, and Carly Jackson.
Cumberland Minor hockey prospects expected to hit the ice for the Blues include Jordan Mackey, Reilly MacMillan, Matt Beal, Jessie Gouchie, Kyle Macdonald and Peter Kane.
The Blues will also dress Ryan Legere, Ryan Durette, Steve Whittle, Jess McGarvey, Chris DeWinter, Forrest Gallagher, and newly acquired defenceman Shane Harnish, obtained in a trade with the Sackville Blazers.
The Blues travel to Moncton on Sunday for a 3:30 p.m. contest and will have most of their returning players in the lineup, including last year's goaltending duo of Jessie Cox and Matt Caron.
Returning defencemen that will dress for Sunday's game are Kevin Izerwood, Zack Anderson, Gil Murdock and Chris Poole.
The Blues will also dress returning forwards Jessie Colborne, John Tattrie, Zack Black, Paul Gulliver, Mike McLure, Brett Pendergast, and Aaron Crocker.
The Blues will have a practice Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m., and the players will then participate in a run in memory of Terry Fox.
A team barbeque will be held at 4:30 p.m. with the Springhill Blues executive.
