Long-awaited construction of Pictou’s two-court tennis facility has begun.
The project began in 2010 with the formation of The Highland Tennis Association, which had a goal of constructing courts in the town of Pictou. Equally, the organizers wants to work toward a broader goal of resurrecting the tennis culture in Pictou County.
The Pictou courts, which will feature U.S. Open blue and green colours, are being built at Broidy Park, a venue which is a hub of activity for both youth and adults. The construction project should be completed in late October.
Play will be limited to a few weeks this year but residents can expect a full program for adults and youth, including tournaments, beginning next spring.
The Highland Tennis Association comprises a nucleus of a volunteer executive and a board of directors. The organization is still seeking funding for the project and would be grateful for any amounts donated. Charitable tax receipts are offered to donors.
