AMHERSRT – Rainy weather didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of Cumberland Minor Football Wolfpack players taking on Summerside and Moncton Sunday afternoon on the Winston Avenue gridiron.

The day started off with the Wolpack’s newest division, the tykes, lining up against each other for the first time.

“We had four teams playing tyke football. They played round-robin football,” said Wolfpack coach Travise Dow. “We had close to 40 kids running around. The kids had fun, the parents had fun.”

After the tykes, it was the Amherst Fire Fighter’s Association Atom Wolfpack taking on a team from Summerside, P.E.I. in exhibition action.

With the rain pouring steadily, the local atom team lost 30-0 to Summerside.

“It was rainy and cold. It was a tough day with the elements,” said Dow. “On a day like this one team is usually more into it than another team.”

After that the Amherst Lion’s Club Peewee Wolfpack took to the field against Moncton, losing by a score of 36-0 in exhibition action.

“We only had 15 kids showed up for the peewee game. Only 15 kids playing 12-on-12, that’s a very low number,” said Dow. “We have 23 players on the list so many kids didn’t show up. It’s pretty difficult to play.”

The Wolfpack is on the road next weekend but return to Amherst the following weekend.
