Prospective Cumberland County Blues can see if they have what it takes to make the team during the first training camp beginning Friday at 7 p.m. at the Richard Calder Arena in Springhill.
SPRINGHILL – The chance to earn a spot on the roster of the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League’s Cumberland County Blues begins Friday at 7 p.m. at the Richard Calder Arena in Springhill.
Terry McManaman is back as the teams’ general manager, Robert McLure is back as coach, and Grove Sutton has come on board the Blues bench as assistant coach.
Mcmanaman is expecting the 2013 team to be stronger than last years team – a team which failed to make the playoffs.
“Last year was a rebuilding year,” said McManaman. “The Blues were a young team with several rookies.”
The Blues have several Forwards that can return – Jessie Colborne, Paul Gulliver, Zack Black, Aaron Crocker, Forrest Gulliver, Michael McLure, John Tattrie and Brett Pendergast.
Also, this year the Blues will have five defencemen that can return – Kevin Isherwood, Gil Murdock, Chris Poole, Zack Anderon as well as goaltenders Jessie Cox, and Matt Caron.
“Returning players have to earn their spots,” said McManaman.
The team intends to reduce their camp to 23-25 players after the weekend.
