The Canadian Cowboys’ Association held two rodeos on the prairies over the Labour Day long weekend.
Brady Bertram picked up a win for the Southwest at the Rough n Ready Roughstock event in Stoughton on August 31. He Bertram used a 78-point ride to win Bareback for $548.
Piapot’s Casey Bertram tied for third in Saddle Bronc. He scored 75 points on Never Enough for $400. He was equaled by Maple Creek’s Ross Kreutzer, who earned 75 points on Outback Jack. Maple Creek’s Mike Gordon was fifth with a 71-point ride on Western for $218.
The Southwest produced three event winners at the Stettler Steel Wheel Stampede on August 31 - September 1. Leading the way was Brady Bertram with his second win of the weekend.
Bertram topped the Bareback field again with a 79-point ride on Cross Roads for $678. In second spot was Consul’s Monty Koopman with a 78-point ride on Carbon Copy for $561.
Leader’s Cody Resch took top spot in Novice Saddle Bronc with a 69-point performance for $218. Leader’s Jarryd Elsasser was second with 55 points for $164.
Maple Creek’s Lane Link rounded out the event winners when he topped Novice Bareback with a 57-point ride to earn $324.
Bracken’s Kyreon Geiger, now riding out of Stettler, placed second in Saddle Bronc at home. He scored 78 points on Fools Gold for $864. Piapot’s Casey Bertram was sixth with 71 points on Environmental Recharge for $252.
Hazenmore’s Ben Switzer combined with Jim-Bob Gomersall (Moose Jaw) to place third in Team Roping in 5.8 seconds for $1,499. Waldeck’s Tuftin McLeod worked with Kevin Larson (Delisle) to place fifth in 6.5 seconds for $970.
Swift Current’s Blaine Switzer was the top Southwest cowboy in Tie Down Roping. He needed just 9.4 seconds to tie for fifth and collect $538. Matt Switzer, now out of Yorkton, tied for eighth in 10.1 seconds for $56.
