River Hebert native will participate in 36th Annual IronManWorld’s in Kailu-Kona, Hawaii
River Hebert native Jeff Burbine, 41 competing August 26, 2012 at IronMan Nationals in Penticton, BC. Recently, Burbine qualified for IronMan Worlds by finishing the three sport (swimming, biking, running) Canadian Nationals event at Whistler, BC. Burbine will compete at IronMan Worlds this October in Hawaii.
WHISTLER, BC-River Hebert native Jeff Burbine, 41, qualified for the 36th annual IronMan World Championships. He finished 7th out of 331 age group participants at IronMan Canada Nationals on August 25, 2013 in Whistler, BC.
Last year, Burbine finished 15th out 350 age groupers in Penticton, BC Nationals.
Burbine, who races out of the Halifax Triathlon Club, completed IronMan Canada Nationals with a time of 9:48:19 to qualify for the 36th annual IronMan World Championships that have been held exclusively in the state of Hawaii since 1978.
The IronMan triathlon, which consists of swimming, biking and running, will commence with a 2.4 mile (3.86 km) open-water swim in Kailua-Kona Bay; a 112 mile (180.25 km) bike ride across the Hawaiian lava desert to Hāwī and back and a marathon (26 mile, 385 yards/42.195 km) along the coast of the Big Island from Keauhou to Keahole Point and back to Kailua-Kona, finishing on Aliʻi Drive.
“His swimming is okay; his running is good, but it is in his biking where he really comes through,” stated Keith Burbine of his son Jeff’s IronMan skill-set recently. “It has long been a goal of Jeff’s to reach IronMan World’s,” added Burbine.
IronMan World’s Race Day for age groupers commences at 7:00 am on Saturday, October 12, 2013. It will officially come to an end at 12:00 am midnight.
The mandatory swim cut-off for the swim will be 2 hours 20 minutes (9:20 am); the bike cut will be at 5:30 PM and the marathon cut-off is at 12:00 am midnight.
All of these events must be completed in succession, without breaks in between.
Australia’s Craig Alexander holds the current Hawaii record with a time 8:03:56.
