AMHERST – Former Amherst Regional High School Vikings Softball players gathered together for an Alumni game Tuesday night at Robb’s Centennial Complex.

The former players had fun while gathering donations for the Amherst Food Bank.

Mark Black represented the first year the team took to the field in 2000 and several players from the 2013 lineup were on hand as well.

Black was the captain for the 2000 team, and Drew Skinner captained the 2013 team.

The Vikings have won six provincial titles since 2000.

So the first year that ARHS had a softball team was 2000?...really? That's peculiar because I 'm pretty sure that I was on the team that won the provincial high school championship in 1976 led by coach Brian Jones, ace pitcher Jim Cormier (who went on to become one of the best fastball pitchers in eastern Canada), shortstop Glenn O'Byrne, John Coleman, Dave Cuvilier, Paul Black and centerfieder yours truly...I was in Amherst last weekend and was looking at the Town Of Amherst Award on my mom's wall that we all received from the mayor (Norm Mansour) to congratulate us. How soon we forget....regards, Steve Lee. (class of '76)

Hey Steve, your provincial championship was for fastball while our slo pitch program began in 1999-2000. Cheers!
