AMHERST – The Amherst Men’s Slopitch League finals are set after the Jager Bombs eliminated the Brew Jays, and IMP eliminated Greensmith Tuesday night at Robb’s Centennial Complex in Amherst.
The Jager Bombs won their best of five series 3-1 against the Brew Jays. The Jays had a commanding 14-4 lead in Game 4 but the Jager Bombs rallied back to win the game.
IMP won their series 3-0, winning Game 3 by a score of 6-3.
IMP will now play the Cumberland Reds in the best-of-seven Division 1 final, and the Jager Bombs will play Sobeys in the best-of-seven Division 2 final.
The Cumberland Reds have won the Division 1 league championship for the last several years are favourites going into the series against IMP.
League coordinator George Martin said IMP will have to play flawless ball to beat the Reds.
“IMP will have to play top-notch, flawless, textbook ball,” said Martin.
Martins says it’s tough to call the Division 2 matchup between the Jager Bombs and Sobeys and said it could go seven games.
Games 1 and 2 start Thursday night, Games 3 and 4 are Tuesday, and Games 5 and 6 are next Thursday.
Game seven, if necessary will go Aug. 12.
