Brings size to the lineup

The Amherst CIBC Wood Gundy Ramblers have acquired forward-defenceman Travis Howe from the Swan Valley Stampeders of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.

AMHERST – The Amherst CIBC Wood Gundy Ramblers have made a move that should make the club much larger heading into the season.

Coach Jim Bottomley announced Tuesday he has acquired forward-defenceman Travis Howe from the Swan Valley Stampeders of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.

“He’s a big physical player who can play both forward and defence,” Bottomley said. “He likes to be involved and is not afraid to stand up for his teammates.”

Howe, whose brother played with the Moncton Wildcats of the QMJHL, is 6’4”, 198 pounds. Last season he had seven assists playing mainly as a defenceman with the Stampeders. He had 88 penalty minutes in 31 games.

With training camp a month away Bottomley said he’s hoping to make a few more moves to shore up the forward corps.

“I’m looking for a couple of high-end scorers,” he said. “This year is going to be a lot like last year in that there will be four solid teams in the hunt for the division and we’re going to be one of them.”
