Registration underway for 30th annual school

Fundy Hockey School celebrating 30th anniversary this season.

AMHERST – The 30th anniversary of the Fundy Hockey School undergo a little transition with the appointment of a new director.

Former Amherst Ramblers coach and general manager Corey Crocker has been appointed the new director of the longtime hockey school. He replaces Jeff Lewis, who has accepted a position as head coach of the men’s hockey team and director of hockey operations at Rothesay-Netherwood prep school near Saint John.

“I’m really looking forward to the school. The people that have come before me have done a really good job building a successful hockey school that has been a big fundraiser for minor hockey over the years,” said Crocker, who has worked as an instructor with the school for several years and also works with the Daniel Cleary hockey school in Newfoundland and Labrador.

This year’s edition of the camp begins on Sept. 3 with groups B (nine and 10 years), C (11 and 12) and D (13 to 15), while Group A (for ages six to eight) runs from Sept. 25 to Oct. 5.

Cost of the school is $175 per player and $100 for goalies.

Registration forms are available at Dayle’s Department Store, Ken’s Rite Stop, the Amherst Stadium and on the Cumberland County Minor Hockey Association website (ccmha.goalline.ca).

Crocker said the hockey school has been successful over the years because of its instructors with a number of veteran coaches working with the players. As well, he said, a number of people who came through the system in recent years have come back to work as instructors.

“When Jeff took the position in RNS he asked me if I was interested in taking over and I jumped at it because it’s very important fundraiser for minor hockey and this year being the 30th anniversary makes it that much more special,” Crocker said.

For further information on the school contact the registrar at aporter@amherst.ca or Crocker at ccrocker@amherst.ca.

The school is sponsored by the Wandlyn Inn and Fort Equipment with financial assistance from CIBC Wood Gundy.
