Chants of “Go Moose Go!” filled the air as thousands of cheering fans lined the Mooseheads parade route and filled Grand Parade Tuesday afternoon.
People of all ages gathered downtown to celebrate the Halifax Mooseheads and catch a glimpse of the trophy the team worked so hard to win.
At the sound of the noon gun, the hockey champs carried the Memorial Cup from the Metro Centre down Carmichael Street, high-fiving fans along the way.
Stefan Fournier carried the cup into Grand Parade, while Trey Lewis handled the QMJHL President Cup as the crowd whistled and clapped.
Every team member had their moment in the sun as their name was called and they crossed the stage to stand together by the trophies, the crowd erupting when Nathan MacKinnon’s name rang out.
Mayor Mike Savage and Premier Darrell Dexter, both decked out in Moose jerseys, addressed the crowd.
“It’s a day to show how proud we are,” Savage said, adding that regional council would officially declare May 28 Mooseheads Day during their Tuesday meeting.
More to come.
