MONCTON – Beware the brothers.
Springhill’s Justus and Jerico MacPhee walked into the Moncton Lions Club on Monday as challengers and stepped away winners at the Cage Rage Long Weekend Smackdown in the competitive sport of mixed martial arts.
Both brothers found first-round submissions against their opponents – Jerico over TJ Dionne and Justus over Corey Littler – moving their respective amateur records to 3-0 and 2-0.
Adding to the big night for Springhill fans was the Moncton MMA community reached out to one of its own skilled fighters, Tim Skidmore of Springhill. The Cage Rage community, organizers and promoters banded together to provide Skidmore with a motorized scooter to assist with his mobility. Skidmore, who is under treatment for sarcoidoisis – a chronic inflammatory cells affecting internal organs – was forced to retire from the sport after a lengthy, professional career.
