Casie Skidmore pitches the ball for Springhill High School against Parrsboro during the district championships on Wednesday.

AMHERST – The Parrsboro boys and girls slopitch teams both came out on top at the Nova Scotia Schools Athletic Federation Division 3 district championships Wednesday in Amherst.

The Parrsboro boys won their championship game 15-3 over Springhill, and the girls beat Pugwash 17-5 in the championship game.

This is the first time in many years we have had a full compliment of boys and girls teams in Division 3 slopitch at the district and it was a very successful day,” said Andy Doucette, athletic director and River Hebert High School, and the NSSAF assistant regional director for the Northumberland Region.

Rain poured down the night before the districts and Doucette thanked Ray Gouchie and his crew for the work they did to dry the fields.

“The fields were soaked and they made them playable,” said Doucette

The results are as follows:

Boys:

Championship (1st/2nd) - Parrsboro 15 Springhill 3

Consolation (3rd/4th) - Pugwash 12 River Hebert 10

(5th/6th) - Oxford 16 Advocate 0

The top five teams advance to Regional in Antigonish on Wednesday.

 Girls:

Championship (1st/2nd) - Parrsboro 17 Pugwash 5

Consolation (3rd/4th) - Springhill 16 Oxford 9
