Lucas Sangster is projected to go in the third round of next month's Quebec Major Junior Hockey League draft.
AMHERST – A Cumberland County minor hockey grad could go in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League draft for the third consecutive year.
Defenceman Lucas Sangster is ranked 42nd overall in the central scouting rankings for the QMJHL draft in June.
Sangster, of Brookdale, played with the Weeks Major Midgets last season, making the second all-star team in his rookie season after playing the 2011-12 season with the Truro Major Bantam Bearcats.
The 6’2”, 196-pound defenceman had a goal and 14 assists for Weeks this past season.
He is expected to be a territorial pick of the Amherst CIBC Wood Gundy Ramblers in the MHL draft in June.
Last June, Amherst’s Josh Pugsley was taken in the third round by the Moncton Wildcats. Pugsley had a solid rookie season with the Ramblers.
Springhill’s Bronson Beaton was taken in the second round by the Shawinigan Cataractes in the 2011 draft. He played with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles last season after being dealt at the trading deadline in 2011.
