Amherst Ramblers forward Shawn Wright, who is a former Truro Bearcat, is eager to get the playoff action going against his former teammates tonight in Truro.
TRURO – Nobody in Colchester County will be more eager to beat the Truro Bearcats in their EastLink Division final than Shawn Wright.
The 20-year-old North River resident is a former Bearcat who now wears the purple and black of the Amherst Ramblers.
The best-of-seven series kicks off Tuesday at 7 p.m. at RECC.
“Playing against Truro in my hometown in the playoffs is definitely going to be exciting,” the six-foot, 185-pound forward said.
Wright was released by the Bearcats in September 2011 after the return of Cole Hawes to the Bearcats lineup. He had a goal and an assist in two games.
He recorded three assists in 31 games as a rookie in 2009-10.
Wright was claimed off waivers by the junior B Brookfield Elks that October and went on to collect 23 points (11G, 12A) in 32 games.
He rejoined the junior A circuit in January when he was picked up by the Ramblers. Primarily a fourth-line checker, Wright has one assist in five playoff games.
Wright said he holds no hard feelings toward the Hubtown organization – he’s remained friends with several Bearcats players, especially those whom he’s grown up and played minor hockey with – and is happy with how things have worked out.
“Yeah, I like it here,” Wright, who now lives with a billet family in Amherst, said. “We have a good group of guys and a good team that could go on a long playoff run the way things are looking right now.”
