Open playoffs in a week against Yarmouth

NEW GLASGOW – Garrett Holmes and Nick Parker each had two goals and three points as the Weeks Crushers defeated the Amherst CIBC Wood Gundy Ramblers 7-4 in Maritime Junior Hockey League action here Thursday.

Devan Gunn had two goals and Andrew Graham scored once for the Crushers, who open their best-of-three mini-series on Monday at home against the Bridgewater Lumberjacks.

Kody Orr and Ryan Caswell gave the Ramblers a 2-0 lead 10 minutes into the first period before Holmes scored his first of the night at 12:20.

Holmes and Parker scored in the second period before the Crushers added three goals in two minutes early in the third with Graham, Parker and Gunn each scoring.

Gunn with his second and Mitch O'Neill and Patrick Harrison for Amherst rounded out scoring.

Orr, Brett Shute and Brock Morrison added assists for Amherst.

The Crushers outshot the Ramblers 30-19.

Amherst had several regulars out of the lineup with Cam McDonald and Robert Davis serving suspensions while Ben MacDonald, Danny Harquail, Josh Pugsley and Jamie Bishop were all out with injury.

Amherst has a week off before opening the Eastlink semifinal series in Yarmouth against the Mariners.
