AMHERST – Four young Spartans swimmers swam to success at a recent meet for developing swimmers in Pictou County.

“The Nova Tech program is designed to develop swim technique and provide an introduction to competitive swimming,” said coach Jan Matthews. “There are three levels to the program and swimmers must demonstrate competency in all four strokes in order to graduate from one level to the next.

Ella McGuigan recorded personal bests in all her results, ranking third in the 100-metre Individual Medley and the 25-metre butterfly, sixth in the 50-metre kick and ninth overall in the 25-metre breaststroke. Her 100-metre IM swim qualified her for Level 1.

George Clark placed first in the 50-metre butterfly event and qualified as a Level 2 swimmer with his personal best time in the 200-metre IM.

Thomas Bristol also graduated to Level 2 as he recorded best times for each of his swims. He placed fourth in the 50-metre kick, seventh in the 200-metre IM and ranked ninth overall in the 50-metre butterfly event.

Maddie Bristol recorded personal best in all of her events.

“It’s encouraging to see the progress these swimmers are making as well as the dedication and confidence they showed in the water and on deck,” said Matthews.
