Both teams meet again Wednesday at Amherst Stadium

Mitchell O'Neill of the Amherst Ramblers battles for position with Truro Bearcats forward Dylan McGuigan Sunday in a Maritime Junior Hockey League tilt between the two teams in Truro.

TRURO – The weekend snowstorm cancelled all Maritime Hockey League action on Saturday, including the Amherst Ramblers home matchup against the Weeks Crushers, but the Ramblers were back in action Sunday night and beat the Truro Bearcats 3-2 in a shootout at Colchester Legion Stadium.

“The team played great,” said Jim Bottomley, Ramblers coach and general manager after the game. “They played hard all night.

“They (Truro) could be our playoff opponent and our games are going to be like that, with one or two goals difference,” added Bottomley. “It’s a battle every time we play them.”

Truro started the scoring at four minutes into the game but the Ramblers tied it up a little over two minutes later on a power play.

The Ramblers Jeff Macpherson scored off passes from Maxime Richard and Jacob Conrad.

There was only one penalty in the first period and it was assessed to the Bearcats.

Both teams exchanged on goal each in the second period as well.

Truro once again scored early, at five minutes into the period, but Richard tied the game 2-2 with only 15 seconds left in the second frame. Willie MacDonald and Conrad scored assists on the goal.

Like the first period, only one player was penalized in the second period. Truro’s Dylan McGuigan was assessed a game misconduct penalty for checking from behind at 11:18 into the period.

There was no scoring in the third period and the game went into overtime.

Once again, only one player was penalized in the period. This time it was a Rambler. Brett Shute was given a minor penalty for interference six minutes into the period.

Richard Tingley played in goal for the Ramblers, and shots on goal during the first three periods were 30-28 in favour of the Bearcats.

Nobody was able to score in overtime.

There were also no penalties in overtime.

Truro outshot the Ramblers 6-2 in overtime.

Total shots on goal before the shootout was 36-30 for Truro.

245 people attended the game.

The Ramblers have a rematch with the Bearcats Wednesday night at Amherst Stadium.

The game starts at 7:30 p.m.
