AMHERST – The Northumberland Nighthawks came into Amherst with a short bench (eight players) Tuesday night and paid the price in a 57-20 loss to the Amherst Regional High School JV Vikettes.

“They (Vikettes) played very well tonight,” said JV Vikettes coach April Scott. “They’re coming off a week of exams, so I wasn’t sure how they would play but they played very well.”

Rachel Chevarie and Hannah Beland led the JV’s in victory with 12 points each, followed by Jessica Wilson with eight, Risha McKenney with five, Miah Tooley with four, and Andrea Comeau, Brooke Wilson, Hannah Legere, Maddison Bennett, and Gina Grattan with two points each.

The JV Vikettes travel to Truro Wednesday night where they will play the Cobequid Education Centre Cougars in a regular season game.

“They’re in our region and it could effect our seeding going into regionals, so it’s an important game,” said Scott.

The regionals begin Feb. 15, and the provincial championships start on Feb. 22.

“They’re working hard and we’re getting better,” said Scott. “We have a lot of young girls, so they’re not expected to come out and be all-stars from the start. I’m happy with the way they’re improving.”

Please define "short bench" if you will i.e. how many players were there for the Nighthawks?
