AMHERST – Aerials Gymnastics Club athletes have completed their first meet of the 2013 season, returning from a weekend meet in Charlottetown.

“I think they did well overall and, for the most part, I thought they were where I thought they would be, with a few surprises here and there,” said Aerials coach Michelle Landry last night as she watched her athletes train at the club.

One athlete who surprised Landry was Imogen Quinn.

“She shined at the meet,” said Landry. “She competed in a couple of meets last year because she was away (in Spain), and she struggled a little during the fall but she had a really good showing in Charlottetown.”

Quinn’s best event in Charlottetown was the beam, where she finished second.

She also points to Brianne Beale as having an, ‘amazing meet.’

“She was first overall in her category (Novice 1). She was awesome.”

The girls are now gearing up for the Tyso meet in Lower Sackville, starting Feb. 16.

“We’re excited to have the season under way and are looking forward to the rest of the season and the provincials,” said Landry.

The Aerials club hosts the provincials at Amherst Regional High School on April 5-7.
