SACKVILLE, N.B. – Caitlin MacDonald of the Volleyball Mounties and Ben Chisholm of the Basketball Mounties are this week’s Joey’s Pizza Mount Allison University Athletes of the Week.
MacDonald, a fourth-year power hitter, was selected for her efforts in a 3-0 win over the Holland College Hurricanes on Jan. 9 and a 3-1 loss to St. Thomas on Jan. 12.
In the win over Holland College, MacDonald led a balanced offence with 10 kills and eight digs and tallied six of the Mounties’ 12 service aces.
Against St. Thomas, the Sussex, N.B. native led both teams with 16 kills (65.2 per cent spike efficiency) in the close and hard-fought loss. She played a very aggressive game at the net and had her strongest defensive performance of the year collecting 10 digs.
She’s currently enrolled in arts majoring in history with hopes of becoming a teacher.
Also nominated were Gillian Tetlow (badminton), Kristen Cooze (hockey), and Kate Lund (basketball).
Chisholm of Fall River scored 22 of his team’s 24 first half points in a 48-44 win over St. Thomas University. He scored 26 points in the game and hauled down 10 rebounds.
At home on Sunday, Chisholm, scored 30 points and collected five rebounds in a 86-48 win over UNBSJ.
He is in his fourth year of commerce. He was the Mounties’ MVP and a conference all-star last year.
Also nominated were: Feng Li, who went unbeaten in men’s singles and doubles at a badminton tournament at King’s over the weekend.
