LANTZ - The Cumberland County Community Credit Union Ramblers split a pair of exhibition games against the East Hants Penguins at the East Hants Sportsplex in Lantz Friday, winning the opener 9-6 before dropping the second game by a 4-2 score.

The Ramblers, who hadn’t been on the ice in a week, hobbled in to East Hants with a short bench due to sickness and work commitments, opting to play the back-up goaltenders at defence to run the skater totals to eight for both games.

Elyse Ferguson paced the Credit Union squad with three goals and four assists, while Sydney Skinner potted three goals and added three helpers. Casie Skidmore scored twice and added three assists, and Whitney Milner also scored once and added a single helper. Adele Mansour had three assists. Brianna Dorey chipped in with a single assist, and Miranda March picked up the win in goal.

Cumberland had fallen behind early but came back to tie the game at two after the opening period, and had opened up a 5-3 lead heading into the third frame en route to the victory.

Fatigue became a factor in the second contest as the short bench took its toll. Cumberland trailed 2-1 after the opener, and 3-2 after the second period.

Elyse Ferguson and Sydney Skinner each scored once, while Jennie Underwood suffered the loss in net for the Ramblers.

The Ramblers are idle until Friday when they open play at the annual DQ Tournament in Shediac against Charlottetown, and then will play East Prince and North River Saturday in Bouctouche, N.B.
